Outer Bank Vacation | 2022

We are back from Vacation. Cue the washer and dryer working on over load and let the sounds of fighting over toys and games commence.

So let's do a recap of our trip. First, I want to say this was our first trip to Outer Banks as a family. I had gone with cousins when I was in college and it was fun, but what a different experience with your own family. I can't wait to plan next years trip! Even though we had two little boys, it still was so relaxing. There was no 'riff raff' as I call it. It was all groups and families and everyone was in the same boat. If you are looking to go somewhere with a board walk, arcades, rides etc.. I wouldn't recommend- at least where we stayed in Corolla. But that's what we loved about it!

We went with our family of four and our best friends from college that had recently moved to Myrtle Beach last Summer. They also have two little boys (4yo & 7 months) so they were excited to see each other.

The House:

Our rented through Airbnb, and got a house a little bigger then we needed for our two families.  We had hopes of bringing a extra set of hands from a sitter, but the dates just didn't work out with her. So we actually had two extra rooms. We stayed on the sound side of the island and there was a path from our side of the house to a walking path that extended pretty far down the sound both ways. There was two master bedrooms with King beds, a queen master room, a bunk bed room with connecting bathroom to a full room. We opted for not having a pool at the house due to the age of our kids, instead we paid a little extra for the Corolla Light Community amenities. There was a club house which housed pools, a restaurant, and every day we had our umbrellas, chairs and a cooler with ice placed out for us! We did drive to the beach each day, but only because it was a few blocks and with the four kids and other stuff we needed to bring, it was easier.

We arrived Saturday night around 9:00pm. We would have loved to arrive early, however we couldn't leave the area until around noon due to Joey's Preschool graduation. Once we got to the house, our friends got us dinner so we were able to eat and hang out for a little before we all crashed and went to bed.  Sunday was Father's Day! The dad's got up and went to the grocery store to get all the items for the week. On their way back they picked up bagels for breakfast and had a slow morning. They requested BBQ for dinner, so we picked out what we were going to get and placed our order for later that night. We all got our things together and headed to the beach for the afternoon. it was so nice that our our beach chairs, three umbrellas and cooler with ice was already set up for us. If you ever go to Corolla Light I can not recommend enough renting your beach equipment. It was such a breeze. Our beach spot was reserved every day, and we just had to bring the kids things. We brought our own towels (bc I'm weird about that!).

Honestly, that pretty much was our daily happenings every day. Wake up, breakfast, beach/pool, dinner and sleep! And man was it great!! Everyone who has young children, knows there is no such thing as 'sleeping in' even on vacation. But that wasn't a bad thing because it got our day started earlier. Instead of boring you with the same thing pretty much all day, here are some photo highlights from our week.

On Wednesday we went shopping to the local shopping center to look around and go in and out of the stores. It was a good change and they had some cute boutiques!

We had made dinner plans that night, so we decided to do a pool day instead of going to the beach. I think the boys truly lived their best lives this week with all the waiter service on both the beach and at the pool and they both share my love for any and ALL daiquiris!!! I must admit that I always tried the daq of the day while on the beach! VACAY BABY!!!!

I didn't get any pictures at dinner that night, but we went to the Lifesaving Station located in the Sanderling Resort in Duck. It was super nice yet were so good with our kids. We of course go early with the kids, so it was not busy yet. It was showers that night, or I would have loved to walk around the resort. They actually had a wedding going on.

On the way home the weather broke for a little, so we were able to drive around to check out the island. Only a little bit down the road was the 4x4 beach where the wild horses live. We didn't get to go this time on the beach, but definitely next Summer! We drove past the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, but it was closed for the night.

Of course no nights were complete without a walk to the ice cream shop! My favorite from when I was a kid was cotton candy. I just Joey try and now that is HIS favorite too!

On Thursday morning, we went to the original Duck Donuts. We waited in line for about 20 minutes and then once we placed our order it was another hour until it would be ready. We order smoothies and acai bowls from next door, and Joe took them and Vinny back to the house for everyone while Joey and I went and grabbed a few groceries next door. It passed the time and before you knew it, the donuts were done!

Joe and Zack had made plans to golf at one of the local courses around lunch time, and Cait and I had all intensions of bringing the boys to the beach. However, their one son didn't feel too well and it was over cast with a few showers through out the day. Instead of sitting inside, I took the boys to the local kite store and Super wings to grab souvenirs.. I think everyone else on the island had the same idea too, because everywhere was packed!  Joey picked out a new boogie board, a big foot figurine and Vinny got a pirate lego- looking set. I also got the cutest lawn kite/flag that looked like Charger!

This was at Sunset on the Sound. It was so pretty.

Friday we spent pretty much the entire day at the beach. We got up early and headed before 11am. It was so beautiful and we didn't want to leave. Vinny of course took his beach nap and once we woke up we decided to head back to the house. We all showered and got ready for dinner. We cooked on the grill and of course the boys played with all their dinos, super heros and godzillas between the house and the decks. Since it was our last day, we kinda were all pooped! We turned on a movie and I think pretty much all of us fell asleep during it!!

Saturday was our check out/ travel home day. It was truly bitter sweet because we were excited to get home to charger and the boys to see the grandparents, but sad to leave this beautiful island and our best friends! We already are making plans for next Summer!
