Pearl Harbor | 75th Anniversary

While in Hawaii in October we knew we wanted to visit the sacred place of Pearl Harbor. I've visited the 9/11 Memorial so I knew the emotions that were going to come over me, but being there was so surreal. The U.S.S Arizona memorial was so somber and everyone was so polite while on it. The buildings that housed the pictures and diagrams tell the story in great depth to make you feel as though you were there that day 75 years ago.

Some Tips if you plan to visit the site:

+ Bags and purses are not allowed but can be checked for $2 in a locker. You really will only need some cash if you want food, your phone or camera for pictures and maybe a credit card for the gift shop.
+ Plan ahead and purchase tickets before you arrive. You will be given a time that your tour will start, but I suggest to arrive early. You can walk around the grounds to view the story leading up to that day and the actions taken after.
+ The earlier you go the better. Hawaii's sun gets HOT and the later in the day the more humid it will get. It also gets a lot more busy later in the day.
+ Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. You will be doing walking on both the memorial and on land. It may be cooler in the morning when the sun is not at prime, so wear layers.

Take some time today and remember those innocent souls taken that day, December 7, 1941.
