Halloween Costume Idea for You and Your Littles

Do you remember the college days when you and your girlfriends would scheme up the idea for the sexiest group costume you could think of? Maybe you are still in college and going through this now? Well I could remember those days like it was yesterday, even though its been SEVEN years since I dressed up in college!!  Now a days, Halloween costumes have change, eh, a lot I guess you can say since then.  Now I have to think of ways to incorporate my son and fur son into the group idea! Being it is Joey's first halloween, the ideas were great, but I think I found the perfect one for our little family. 

I love the show Game of Thrones and thought of this idea a while ago when the show was just coming back for the season!  I knew Charger and Joey would look so cute dressed as dragons now to convince my husband. A little background, Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clark has three (I won't spoil it for you if you didn't see this past season!!!!) dragons who she has raised as her own! Therefore she is the "Mother of Dragons"

 As you can see he is MIA from the photo's.. I could not convince him! LOL I even said he could be Jon Snow since he had the whole scruffy beard look down, but still a no.

Vintage Find: Copper Tea Kettle

Do you ever go into an antique store looking at every single vendors stuff, yet find not one thing.. that ALMOST happened to me a few weeks ago, until I was walking back out of the store and saw the most darling tea kettle hiding on a bottom shelf just begging to be purchased. Joe thought I was nuts considering this poor little key was practically black from tarnish. I knew it just needed a little TLC! 

First I cleaned the entire tea pot with a wet paper towel to remove any excess dirt that may be on it. I then made the following 'paste' to get some of that tarnish off:

1 cup white vinegar

1 tablespoon salt

add flour to form a paste consistency. 

I used a spoon to put it on the pot and rubbed it in with the back of the spoon.

Since my pot was very tarnished I left it on for an hour and then rinsed with warm water. I had missed some spots so I did it again and left it on for another 20 minutes. 

It's not perfect, but that's okay with me! I love the way it looks hanging in my kitchen, especially with my copper mugs!

Vintage Find: Kids Rocking Chair

A couple of weeks ago, Joey and I took a trip to one of our favorite vintage stores, Chelsea Forge Antiques. We ended up picking up a couple things, but this little rocking chair needed some loving.
The woven backing was broken and the stain on the chair itself was wearing away. I did love the way it looked rustic and worn, but knew it would match our house better with a coat of paint. The backing was an easy fix to just restitch and pull tighter, plus we got this little guy at a steal!

After re-weaving some of the backing and tacking it so that it was tight again, I went over the entire chair with an all purpose cleaner.  Any chipping stain or paint I made sure was removed. 

I went over the entire chair with white spray paint. Once dried I did another coat on any areas I missed. Once those coats were completely dried, I went over the chair with sand paper one areas that would have been naturally worn through use. Using a dry cloth, I wiped away any excess paint flakes from the sand paper.

Lastly I sprayed a coat of polyurethane over the entire chair and let dry completely outside (or with the garage open to avoid any fumes!).

 I used these stencils to add some personalization onto the chair.

Joey loves sitting in it and rocking! He's still a little small to be left alone in it, but can see this getting a lot of use in a couple months!!

I love visiting animals, giggling at Daddy and Charger.. especially at night, flirting with all the ladies 😉 and giving mommy heart attacks when I sleep on my belly! My hair is finally growing back in and I can't wait for Halloween!!
